Summergate Wines & Spirits Brand Refresh

Summergate is a wine and spirits distributor founded in 1999 by Ian Ford (he later sold this business to Woolworths Australia in 2014). The brand refresh had three objectives: Premiumisation, Consistency, and Strong Pitch.

I was impressed with how tight the team was at Summergate - I suppose when you work with alcohol, it’s easy to create fun memories that bring people together.

In our first strategy workshop, there were contrasting POVs between the sales and the marketing teams: marketing aims at securing FUTURE sales, versus sales’ focus on boosting sales, NOW. How do we reconcile and balance both short vs long-term goals?

The workshop provided a platform for the teams to collaborate on common ground in seeing their shared goals from each other’s perspective, what makes the company unique (their team culture above all), and regaining a sense of unified identity and comradeship in the team.
